Christopher Smith, Commissioner

Co-Founder & President

Christopher Smith is the Commissioner, Founder and President of the Sandhills Motoring Club. Born and raised on Long Island, Chris migrated to Pinehurst in the late 80s and has been a long time resident ever since. A life long automotive enthusiast, not only is he the Commissioner of SMC, he is the President of the Triangle Section of the Mercedes-Benz Club of America, a member of the Porsche Club of America, and member of the Sports Car Club of America. His prize 1989 560SL has won the Mercedes-Benz Silver Star Award for Presentation, first place in Hagerty Youth Judging 2018, Best in Class at SMF 2019, and was featured in the September 2018 edition of Popular Mechanics. His other prize possession, a 1991 Dodge Stealth R/T, which he purchased brand new at the age of 16, was also featured in Popular Mechanics in the October 2019 edition. Chris, in recent years, has also developed a love of Porsche autos as represented in his collection.

His love of cars, technology, and all things Pinehurst has come together in his participation with the Sandhills Motoring Club. With his extensive background in Business Operations and Information Technology, his role is a perfect fit. In his spare time, he owns and operates an Information Technology conglomerate, Convergent Systems, LLC, based in Pinehurst, NC.

Marvin Waters, Crew Chief

Co-Founder & Consultant

Marvin Waters is Co-Founder and Consultant of the Sandhills Motoring Club. He is a North Carolina native; New Bern is his hometown and NC State his Alma Mater. Marvin inherited his love of all things automotive from his Father who drove Corvettes and Harley Davidson’s his entire life. Marvin joined the Porsche Club of America in 1995 while living in Jupiter FL and never looked back, he has driven many Porsche’s on the racetrack over the years, including a 1975 911 Carrera and currently tracks a Boxster ClubSport.

Marvin is a 25-year member of the PGA of America but has always been involved in the car hobby. He has written for many automotive magazines, newsletters and websites including: RM Sotheby’s award-winning SHIFT magazine, Hagerty magazine and flatsixes.com. Marvin is currently Director of Sales and Marketing for The Wilson Collection in Jupiter FL as well as owner of automotive services company SWIFTMOTORING LLC. Over the years Marvin has maintained membership in many automobile clubs including the prestigious Oglethorpe Driving Club in Savannah, GA and is also a Judge at the Porsche Werks Reunion on Amelia Island each March.
